WE BELIEVE IN:
Hi, I'm Jen...
Far Out is the business I always wanted to build, back when I was learning how to run rivers in the Sierra Nevada and screen printing panties (yep, you read that right) during the early craft renaissance, before the enshittification of Etsy and when CRAFT magazine was my bible.
Then I got wrapped up in building a business the way you're "supposed to" and forgot the things that mattered most. It took a cancer diagnosis to get me back to my WHY.
Far Out is me finding my way back. It's a commitment to slowing down. It's a reminder that art, creativity, connection, and the outdoors belong to us. As we attempt to wrap our minds around the impact of AI, unchecked billionaires, political corruption, and [checks notes] the crisis created by that list, everything you find here might just be the antidote (if you believe in that drop-in-a-bucket metaphor, like I do).

We're (kinda) nice outdoorsy ladies
Far Out is what we dreamed up as we figured out life after a cancer diagnosis (hi, that's me, Jen) and on the other side of a serious injury (that's Slu, our Creative Director).
It speaks to how we want to show up in the world, what and who we want to surround ourselves with, and how we want to leave this place better than we found it.
Far Out is our reminder that slowing down is not a failure of ambition; it's a necessary tool to live our lives to the fullest.
OUR MANIFESTO
Celebrate the little c's
Small creativity, small community, and small change. Don't let the pressure to go big or go home intimidate you. The little things do matter.
The best things in life don't scale. That's exactly what makes them worth chasing.
A Slow Shop for a Fast World
We don't offer a thousand things, but what we do matters. No discount codes. No urgency. Just goods that connect us to the things we love. Shop when you need something, when it makes you feel good. Support makers and small business owners, not billionaires.
Our Trips
We do the heavy lifting. You do the experiencing. You don't need more content about the outdoors. You need to actually be in them. Travel with purpose, meaning, and impact.
