The Long Way
Original artworks + zine inspired by the change in seasons
The Long Way
Change is hard. Change is good. Change is constant. Change is all around us. Change is a chance to celebrate. Original artwork and a zine to help you celebrate every solstice and equinox.
Why nature inspired zines & artwork?
Nature has been a subject of art for as long as art has existed, but a zine puts that connection in your hands rather than behind glass. It's accessible and affordable. Because our zines are small-batch and hand-assembled, each one carries a sense of intimacy and craft that mass-produced prints don't. They turn a walk outside or a change of season into something tangible you can hold, fold, and revisit.
Our original artwork was created by Slu's hands and her mind, from start to finish. We don't use generated or licensed stock imagery, and matters for anyone who #1 values art as a tool for expression and joy, and #2 wants their space to reflect a unique creative perspective instead of something anyone else could buy at a big-box store. It also means every color choice, line, and composition is intentional, not algorithmically produced. It's not made for the masses, it's made for you.
Nature-themed pieces tend to mark time in a way other art doesn't. Whether it's the solstice or an equinox, zines have a built-in ritual quality. Collectors (like you) often use them to track the year or decorate their walls. There's also a nostalgia factor that resonates with us: zines remind us of the pleasures of that DIY, pre-digital culture that feels increasingly rare.
Releasing art around the seasons, particularly the solstices and equinoxes, mirrors the actual rhythm of the natural world instead of an arbitrary retail calendar. It encourages all of us to slow down and notice those transitions rather than let them pass unremarked. Over time, collecting a piece each season can become its own quiet ritual, almost like a nature journal in art form.
Independent artists, like Andrea Slusarski, our Creative Director and in-house artist, bring a distinct point of view that's shaped by where they live, what they experience outdoors, and their own unique style. That's something a stock photo or AI-generated image can't replicate. Supporting that work directly funds the artist and small businesses rather than a licensing platform, which matters to people like you who care about where their money goes and who want to use their resources to help create a more equitable and sustainable world. It also means the zine you're holding is genuinely one of a kind, not one of millions of identical copies.
Exposure to natural imagery has been linked in research to lower stress and improved mood, even when it's just a picture rather than the outdoors itself. It's a concept called biophilic design. Hanging nature art in your home or workspace is a low-key way to bring some of that calming effect indoors year-round. For people who can't get outside as often as they'd like, it's a small but real substitute.
